History of creation and development of Applied Mechanics and Control Department
The Department of Applied Mechanics and Control was created in the end of 1941st year. At the beginning of Great Fatherland War the group of specialists was formed in Theoretical mechanics Department, which interests was narrowly connected with branches of mechanics which development was demanded by instrument-making industry and manufacture of automatic control systems. Professor Ivan Ivanovich Artobolevskiy read the general course "Applied mechanics" and special courses "Cinemathics of mechanisms" and "Dynamics of mechanisms", professor Boris Vladimirovich Bulgakov read special courses "Theory of linear fluctuations" and "Special chapters of applied theory of gyroscopes". These men became the creators of new chair, which separated from Department of Theoretical mechanics. To act the managing the Department it was offered to I.I. Artobolevskiy, corresponding member of AS USSR at that time.
Most contribution in becoming of chair was brought by professor, in a consequence - a corresponding member of AS USSR B.V. Bulgakov (1900-1952) managed Department from 1942 to 1952 years. He developed new cources on gyroscopes theory and theory of fluctuations. His monographies "Fluctuations" and "Applied theory of gyroscopes" became classics.
After B.V. Bulgakov's premature demise Yakov Naumovich Roytenberg (1910-1988), one of the leading russian specialists in theory of gyroscopes and automatic control theory, lead chair from 1952 to 1956.
From 1956 to 2003 year chair was lead by academic of RAS Alexandr Yulyevich Ishlinskiy (1913-2003). A.Yu. Ishlinskiy - one of the greatest mechanic-scientists, Hero of Socialist Labour, winner of Lenin and State premiums of USSR and Russia.
A.Yu. Ishlinskiy lead active work in World federation of ingeneer organisations and was it's president from 1987 to 1991 year. Twice winner of State premiums Vladimir Vladimirovich Alexandrov heads chair from 2003 year.
Scientific soviet of MSU renamed chair to "Chair of applied mechanics and control" in 1993 year in accordance with significant growth of amount of works on control theory lead by chair.
Chair narrowly connected with Institute of mechanics of MSU. A.Yu. Ishlinskiy was appointed to be the first director of institute at the time of it's creation in 1959 year. Department of applied mechanics was formed and lead by G.V. Savinov, V.O. Konenko, E.A. Devyanin. Four laboratories was created in this department: laboratory of fluctuation theory (I.A. Balayeva), theory of gyroscopes (N.T. Kuzovkov, I.V. Novozhilov after), laboratory of mechanisms and machines theory (N.V. Eremeev), laboratory of regulation theory(I.T. Borisenok) reformed in laboratory of navigation (N.A. Parusnikov). At the current time these divisions reformed in laboratory of general mechanics (E.A. Devyanin, V.M. Budanov after) and laboratory of navigation and control (Yu.M. Okunev).
Increasing of difficulty and amount of practic problems of navigation and control theory lead to creation in MSU the department of applied investigations (manager - academic of RAS V.A. Sadovnichiy). In 1987 year in bounds of this department the laboratory of control and navigation (N.A. Parusnikov) was created, and in 1992 year laboratory of Mathematical methods for dynamic simulation systems (V.V. Alexandrov) was created. And in 1998 year laboratory of mechanics and electronics (A.V. Lenskiy) was created in institute of mechanics with support of chair. It's main field of interests is development of mechatronic systems and mobile robots as well.
Emplyees of all appointed laboratories accepts active participation in chair work, leads the physical-mechanical practicum, controlls scientific work of students and aspirants. Besides the heads of scientific divisions mentioned before, let's name doctors of physical and mathematical sciences A.A. Golovan, Yu.V. Bolotin, A.I. Matasov, V.A. Samsonov, A.P. Seyranyan, A.M. Formalskiy, candidates of physical and mathematical sciences T.G. Astakhova, L.Yu. Blazhenova-Mikulich, D.I. Bugrov, N.B. Vavilova, A.A. Grishin, E.V. Gurfinkel, V.I. Kalenova, R.P. Kuzmina, L.K. Lavrovskiy, B.Ya. Lokshin, V.A. Privalov, M.A. Salmina, O.Yu. Cherkasov, A.G. Yakushev, and also the scientific employee S.A. Trubnikov and younger scientific employee N.E. Shulenina.
At the current time on the chair works: doctors of physical and mathematical sciences, professors V.V. Alexandrov (leads chair), I.V. Novozhilov, N.A. Parusnikov, V.M. Morozov; candidates of physical and mathematical sciences, the senior-lecturers A.E. Ordanovich, N.V. Kulikovskaya, N.P. Stepanenko, V.V. Tihomirov, P.A. Kruchinin, V.M. Budanov, leading scientific employee S.S. Lemak, A.V. Vlakhova, E.A. Pobedrya. Significant specialists worked on the chair at diffirent times: E.A. Devyanin, I.A. Balaeva, V.I. Borzov, I.T. Borisenok, N.V. Eremeev, S.I. Zlochevskiy, N.T. Kuzovkov, N.I. Levitskiy, M.Z. Litvin-Sedoy, V.Ya. Natanzon, G.S. Narimanov, I.Z. Pirogov, G.V. Savinov, V.M. Starjinskiy.
Scientific achievements of applied mechanics were repeatedly marked by high government awards:
- In 1976 year E.A. Devyanin and I.V. Novozhilov became winners of USSR State premium.
- In 1989 year - V.V. Alexandrov, V.I. Borzov, I.V. Dylevskiy, Yu.M. Okunev.
- In 2002 year V.V. Alexandrov and S.S. Lemak became winners of State premium of Russian Federation.
